In reply to an enquiry which I addressed to the Foreign

Office on the subject of the recent prohibition by the

Hong long Goverment of the export of raw and waste silk

to the United States of America, I have received a communica-

tion referring me to you for information as to what action

it is proposed to take with a view to relieving the silk

trade of the Colony of unnecessary restrictions.

I write, therefore, to beg that you will be good

enough to afford me the desired information.
